Part One starts with Emma. She is as beautiful as Alice but she is not 22 she is 122 years old and a member of the Age Prevention Programme. She works as a special surgeon in an exclusive Swiss clinic. The Age Prevention Program station is waiting for her, she is scheduled to die within the next 12 hours. Her partner is a Swiss ski instructor, a handsome young man who doesn't know how rich or how old Emma is. She's never told him her age. How will she spend her last hours on Earth?

I was hooked from the start. A beautiful woman hears the alarm go off, but it's not her regular morning wake-up call. This is a wake-up call of another whole dimension. I found the premise fascinating!The dilemma the lead character finds herself in is compelling and the picture Ms. Nougat paints of our world two hundred years from now is quite believable. There are subtle and not-so-subtle predictions as to where our world is heading as the rich get richer and the middle class disappears into endless struggle. What does that mean? She explores this trend in a very thought provoking way.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot, I wouldn't want to spoil it for you because there were quite a few unexpected twists and turns. It was a very fast read and I had planned to move on to another book when I was finished, but I just HAD to find out what happened next, so I was on to installment #2 of this series immediately! And it did not disappoint! I highly recommend I Will Not Leave You Behind as a book where you can escape into another world and enjoy the ride!

I am a big fan of short stories and novellas and Claude Nougat's 2213 Forever Young had me enthralled to the end. She presents a Dystopian future not so far removed from our own present with highly plausible societal developments and unexpected consequences. As ever, in Nougat's future money talks and determines the level of pain and sickness in your life, the length of your life and of course the nature of your death. But does living twice the normal human lifespan with the same body and looks as when you are in your 20s make it any easier to face death? What if the love of your extended life does not know your real age or the fact that you are in the elite class - a "One Percenter" ? This short story succeeds In exploring many themes Love,Trust, Death and Inequalities of wealth and opportunity. An interesting projection of the future.
On the long side of a short story, this book cuts to the chase. Claude Nougat is an intellectual writer but is unafraid to venture into the irrational human circus with a hands on physical passion. Many dictionaries define Dystopia as the opposite of Utopia. Claude Nougat would tell you this is far too simple. This story (novelette), deals with the inequalities of a society where the privileged have so much more - or do they? Indeed, what do they have at all? If a society worships only youth - does it not also deny the ever young the gift of respect for their wisdom? Imagine having seen it all and being tutored in your own life as a subject in history! Many my age actually live this experience. The point is that I'm only thinking this because the book has stimulated my mind to do so. In the end the characters assert a kind of freedom from perfection but leave the same dilemmas behind for the reader to ponder. If you like Aldous Huxley, you'll really get this story.
If you're a boomer and this book doesn't send a chill up your spine, you'd better check your pulse. I don't want to give too much away because "I Will Not Leave You Behind" is filled with surprising twists and turns. It's no spoiler to say that the story takes place about 200 years in the future. Unlike so many stories set in the future, Ms. Nougat creates a very plausible future. Too plausible. Scarily plausible. At first we are envious of Emma, the protagonist, until she is suddenly confronted with her own mortality in much the same way a speeding out of control race car is confronted with a concrete wall. And she takes the reader right along with her. The story moves at a breathtaking pace. As a reader, when I pick up a new book, I want to feel like a mail sack on a railway platform waiting for a speeding train to snatch me away to a new destination. That's just what Claude Nougat does with this first in a series of three "Forever Young" books. Thoroughly enjoyable read. Highly recommended
This story was ok, it was not that interesting. I wish this story had been more interesting and longer. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
The idea was very original and I would have liked it to be rather more developed than it actually was. The author seems to have run out of steam a bit too early and I thought she could have got a lot more out of the concept than she did. So a bit disappointing, but well written.
once you start to know the characters, you feel their hopes, fear, and happiness. It was all good, the way Sergio helped her in her final day. A man that Turkey love her, no matter what. A very good read.
This is really just a portion of a series, not an entire novel. Barely longer than a short story. It was entertaining, but didn't feel developed or finished.
The premise is very similar to the movie In Time in which the very wealthy can live forever. It is a dystopian future with a mythos that is not fully developed. It felt more like a short story and felt rushed instead of gradually built.
It was not an expensive book and I understand why. This might be suited for YA audiences who would not miss the detailed nuances of adult best-seller fiction. But it is a good idea that would have been nice to be more developed. The premise sounded intriguing, Wish the book was a good as the blurb.
